First Event, LaForce

01.16.19 Hood Men's Basketball Game vs Stevenson

Hood College's Men's Basketball team warms up on the court before their game versus Stevenson on January 16, 2019 at BB&T Arena. The game was themed "Shoot Out Cancer" to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness.  

Senior player, Ian Eversull (#32), waits intently as the play unfolds. Eversull had nine points, six rebounds, two assists, four steals and two blocks. 

Stevenson players on the bench watch the action on the court intensely. Stevenson's men's basketball record this season is 12-6. 

Referee points down the court after Hood makes a basket. Fans in the bleachers consist of family, friends, and students. 

Hood players box out opponents under the basket as a shoot is attempted. The bleachers were decorated with pink streamers and balloons for "Shoot Out Cancer" night to spread awareness for Breast Cancer research. 

First Event, Buford

Professor Tamelyn Tucker-Worgs introduces speaker C. Nicole Mason at Mason's MLK Day lecture  "Who Are We Now?"  in Whitaker Campus Center on Jan. 21, 2019. The lecture wrapped up a a full day of Hood College events to commemorate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

C. Nicole Mason addresses a crowd of Hood students, faculty and community members on Jan. 21, 2019 in Hood's Whitaker Campus Center. Mason discussed her book, "Born Bright: A Young Girl's Journey from Nothing to Something," and the modern implications of MLK's legacy.   
Students and faculty, including Hood College President Andrea Chapdelaine,  listen attentively at Hood's MLK Day Lecture in Hood College Whitaker Camus Center on Jan. 21, 2019. After the lecture, attendees were given the opportunity to ask questions and make comments for the crowd and speaker to discuss.

Damani Myers placing frozen fries on pan before putting them into the oven on January 19, 2019 in apartment in Dublin, PA. With the weather outside being cold and frigid Damani decided to stay inside and making lunch.

First Event, Cheripka


Boats sit motionless on Carroll Creek for annual Festival of Lights.
Local businesses are allowed to create boats that are displayed for winter months. 

 A Maryland themed boat sits in the middle of Carroll Creek.
Boats are lined up annual for the Festival of Lights in downtown Frederick until February.  

The Carroll Creek Clipper helps celebrate the 25 years of the Festival of Lights.
A total of seven boats are displayed through out the creek for the festival, that started in November. 

The Fire and Ice boat is in preparation for the Fire and Ice Festival that is coming soon.
The boat matched the frozen conditions of the night, January 21, with parts of the creek freezing. 

First Event, Spencer




The infamous Frederick spires fill "Starry Night" themed boat floating on Carroll Creek on January 20, 2019. The boats adorn the creek while featuring different aspects about city of Frederick.

A dragon boat with shimmering light up teeth looks over Market Street towards the decorated boats on January 20, 2019. The dragon boat sits next to  La Paz and faces the Carroll Creek Promenade. 

The Snallygaster boat lights up the creek on January 20, 2019.  The Snallygaster is a dragon-like creature from folklore local to the Frederick and D.C. areas. 

The lights from the boats reflect in the cold creek water by Doner Bistro and Sweeties on January 20, 2019. The boats are seen in a neat row from above, on one of the many bridges that pass over the creek.

Billy Edge adds cheese to his bologna sandwich during a frigid day on January 19, 2019, and this sandwich was made because he was starving. He now has added cheese which will bring a nice taste to the sandwich to make Mr. Edge happy.

Billy Edge reaches into the fresh spinach bag to add some quality greens to his sandwich on January 19, 2019. The spinach will add a healthy touch to his sandwich.  

Billy Edge finishes the final product and puts the entire sandwich together and now it is ready to eat on January 19, 2019. The sandwich is going to fill his apatite very nicely.  

Billy Edge about to put the second piece of bread to cover the spinach in order to prepare to eat the sandwich on January 19, 2019. He is very excited to eat this sandwich and satisfy himself with his sandwich making abilities. 

Billy Edge puts the sandwich together and is ready to eat it on January 19, 2019. He is very satisfied with the final product and how it turned out.
