Event 2: Fire In Ice, LaForce

02.02.19 First Saturday Fire In Ice

On Saturday, February 2, 2019, the Downtown Frederick Partnership hosted the annual First Saturday Event, Fire In Ice. This is one of the most popular events of the year in Downtown Frederick. From ice sculptures to fire performances, this event is fun for the whole family.

Along Carroll Creek, the crowd gathers around a hot air balloon gondola to awe in amazement at the massive blazing flame. As night falls, the temperatures drop quickly but luckily the heat from the flame disperses across the entire creek.

A fire performer puts on a show for the crowd with his hot skills. The fire part of Fire In Ice includes fire pits with s'mores dispersed throughout downtown and fire performances.

Every winter, colorful lighted boats are placed along Carroll Creek as part of The Sailing Through Winter Solstice, an event where the community votes on their favorite boat. Each boat is sponsored by a local Frederick business and the money raised from the votes goes towards the business's chosen charity. This Viking boat dubbed the "Snallygaster" is sponsored by the Poole's and Beckley's who have chosen to support the Glade Valley Community Services.
