Three Shots, Buford

The apple butter sits in a large iron pot over a small fire for over six hours on Oct. 21, 2018.  It will later be cooled  and jarred by member of Williams Memorial United Methodist Church.

Bryan Evans takes a turn stirring the apple butter as it cooks  on Oct. 21, 2018.  Evans' grandmother is a member of Williams Memorial United Methodist Church and although this is the first time he has helped make the butter, he enjoys eating it every year.

Bryan Evans stirs the pot of apple butter on Oct. 21.  The rest of those attending eat, drink and prepare to jar the butter once it's done, hours later.

Members of Williams Memorial United Methodist Church and their families work together  to fill jars with apple butter after hours of cooking on Oct. 21 2018. The West Virginia church makes and sells their apple buttering the fall of every year.

Stirring the apple butter is a long and hot process as congregants of Williams Memorial United Methodist Church take turns stirring and tending the fire on Oct. 21. Everyone works well into the evening to get the gallons of butter jarred and ready for sale and consumption.
